Difficult Airway Trolleys
Difficult Airway Trolleys (DAT) are fundamental during an airway emergency, and it is paramount that the operators have the right equipment at their immediate disposal.
These carts are usually equipped with 4 or 5 drawers, and all of them are properly labelled in order to guide the personnel during the various steps of an airway emergency. Each drawer should contain the materials suggested by the Difficult Airway Society guidelines, which divide the procedure in four plans:
– Plan A: initial intubation strategy
– Plan B: secondary intubation strategy
– Plan C: oxygenation via facemask
– Plan D: use of cannula and surgical cricothyroidotomy
